ACUMEN AND INTERNATIONAL CHIMERA AT C. EMERSON FINE ARTS
ST. PETERSBURG, FLORIDA – C. Emerson Fine Arts continues it’s 2010 season with a group exhibition titled Deft February 26 through April 17, 2010. The exhibition will include works by nine internationally diverse artists: Clayton Chandler, Chiézo, Patrick Francisco, Freak Friends, Rocky Grimes, Patrick Maxcy, PLASEEBO, and John Revisky. This diverse group of visual artist cohesively will be exhibiting drawings, custom vinyl toys, mixed media, paintings, photography and printmaking.
This exhibition is a clever insight into social/cultural issues with a capacity for playful fantasia. These nine artists redefine the conventional pop culture with intriguing detail, colors and composition. Strong imagery flirtatiously evokes the viewer to look closer for hidden surprises and astounding visual representation.
Maxcy and Fatica’s paintings masterfully dance between realism and dream. Chiézo’s drawings are rich with detail. Upon close inspection there are a multitude of characters. Robots and monsters lurk behind thin swirling lines. They are accented at times with just the perfect amount of color. Sometimes the starkness alone of her black and white work can transport you to another place or perhaps time. Chandler’s drawings are complimentary to Chiézo’s style of characters. His works however are often playfully darker. They have social tongue in cheek messages upon further inspection. Freak Friends is a Bazaar. Her drawings paintings are emotionally charges monsters that will catch you off guard. Francisco and PLASEEBO are both deft in creating memorable characters. PLASEEBO concocts custom toys that glow with an ominous light. Francisco customizes small vinyl toys with his well known chimp into to a variety of expressive and charming personage. In addition he presents wondrous paintings with deep colors and authentic allegories. Grimes’ screen prints are brazen. He implores you to contemplate cultural mediocrity. There is no demand for redemption, only a captivating glimpse into repercussion. Revisky manipulates photography in translucent layers offering utopian escape in exquisite color.
The opening reception for Deft will be Friday February 26, 2010 from 7 P.M. to 10 P.M.
