S.L.A.M. F.A.D. #16: MMJoe – The Filmmaker “Success Comes in Layers”

SLAM:  When we first met Joe Sanchez, SLAM did not exist.  Isn’t that the wonderful thing about life?  New projects, new missions and amazing creations happening everyday!  Joe Sanchez is the epitomy of a fighter with a smile.  He will be there at the drop of a hat and when the fun begins will sweat his ass off to make sure the job gets done.

I don’t think he minded when SLAM asked him to come help out with a Roadkill Murder Shoot.  The model Babydoll and photographer Christopher Ayres were excited when they realized that we were not only doing some behind the scenes shots of this killer artistic shoot they had come up with, but when Joe produced the video it was a commemorated victory of the art we all had created together.  I know your dying to see it and SLAM will never fail you – but the end result is that we love Joe Sanchez.

The lives he changes include the artists of SLAM and today will indirectly affect many of you.  SLAM the F.A.D. project is here to stay bringing you a fabulous new artist everyday!  With no further adeau – here is MMJoe the Filmmaker with some words for all the “slammers.”  So in the words of Eminem: “Please stand up.  Please stand up.”  Cause StandAsOne Productions is a winner and you might not be able to keep up with this one while sitting down!  He is truly on FIRE!

They say that success comes in layers.  For those of you that don’t know me I’m MMJoe, J Saenz, or simply just Joe Sanchez.  For the last few years, I have managed to make a name for myself in the indie film scene, especially in the Tampa bay area.  I’m a jack of all trades.  I am a writer, a director, a producer, an editor and the true definition of the word filmmaker.  I can honestly say my hands have been involved and are currently wrapped up in a number of projects.

Just recently I wrapped up the principle photography on a book teaser/trailer http://angelafrancis.wordpress.com/collide-trailer/.

Currently I’m helping an associate of mine launch a full scale project that is going to help out a lot of local talent. Check out http://www.rentstudiotime.com/.

I just wrapped up the production of my first feature “Imported Affairs.”   I also host the infamous networking site F.I.L.M.

The thing that keeps me going is the belief that I’m here to help those in production need.  I always strive to help those that want to achieve their production goals and dreams.  As a producer, I have not only managed to self-produce a lot of my own material but I have had the opportunity to work on many of other people’s projects. I  really like to give someone their first shot.  Aspiring actors and models have been able to establish themselves thanks to their involvement in some of my material.  Regardless of whatever production scale, the name StandAsOne tries to get involved.  Please check out my demo reel below:

On a personal level, I started doing the writing thing at the tender age of thirteen.  A year later, I picked up a video camera and started mastering it.  Five years ago, I started shooting my own material and I have never looked back.  I always tell people to start small!  Regardless of production size, it is all about the skill.  Can you tell what needs to be told with the stuff and/or material you have around you?  Always challenge yourself.  Any Hollywood and/or successful filmmaker can get away with what they are doing because they have the tools of the trade available to them.  On an indie level that is not the case.  The real skill comes from what can be mastered with such limitations.  Regardless of the bounds we have set as individuals we also set our own limits.  Some words that I live by:  Just keep moving forward.

What’s up ahead?  Another feature film; a multi-scale project that will help businesses grow and a number of shorts.  I will never stop planting the roots of the StandAsOne Production name.  To harvest the weeds, one must first plant the soil and then prosperity is sure to come.

About The Cove
The Cove is an astounding piece of investigative journalism with the heart of an action thriller. Led by Louie Psihoyos, leader of the Ocean Preservation Society, and Richard O’Barry, an internationally recognized authority on dolphin training who is best known for his work on the 1960’s TV show Flipper, the film follows a high-tech dive team on a mission to discover the truth about the international dolphin capture trade as practiced in Taji, Japan. Utilizing state-of-the-art techniques, including hidden microphones and cameras, the team uncovers how this small seaside village serves as a horrifying microcosm of massive ecological crimes happening worldwide.

The Cove won an Academy Award for Best Feature Documentary in 2010.

About Richard O’Barry
Marine Mammal Specialist, Earth Island Institute
Richard O’Barry has worked both sides of the dolphin street, the first 10 years with the dolphin captivity industry, the past 38 against it.

Working back in the 1960s for Miami Seaquarium, O’Barry captured and trained dolphins, including the five dolphins who played the role of Flipper in the popular American TV-series of the same name. When Kathy, the dolphin who played Flipper most of the time, died in his arms, O’Barry realized that capturing dolphins and training them to perform silly tricks is simply wrong.

O’Barry has rescued and released more than 25 captive dolphins in Haiti, Colombia, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Brazil, the Bahamas Islands and the United States.

To recognize his contribution, in 1991 O’Barry received the ‘Environmental Achievement Award’ presented by the United States Committee for the United Nations Environmental Program (US/UNEP).

The University of Tampa Film Society

This Thursday at 5pm in the Cass building Black Box has its first Society meeting of 2010. Come out and connect with fellow filmmakers both student and professional.
If you have an upcoming project, come out and recruit your crew. There will be a couple of producers for some local features present as well.
Also, any one interested in working as an officer in the future should come and talk to Joshua Long. Helping run the society will defiantly look great on a resume especially with the 2nd Annual Black Box Film Festival coming up in September of 2010.
The Society will also be hosting several events through-out the year. So stay tuned and drop by the meeting on Thursday.
